Cort returns from Texas

Statement

Date: Sept. 4, 2007

Cort participates in Texas Straw Poll, message reaches thousands.

Birmingham, AL (September 4, 2007) - Counter-terrorism expert, author and candidate for the 2008 Republican presidential nomination, Dr. Hugh Cort, took part in the Texas GOP's first presidential straw poll over the weekend.

Overall, for the Cort campaign, the event was a huge success. Dr. Cort was able to get his message of getting America back to God, ending abortion and homosexual marriage and winning the Iraq war out to the masses. Winning the war was obviously controversial to supporters of Congressman Paul, as one of his supporters had to be escorted out of the hall as Dr. Cort laid out his plan to win the Iraq War.

Dr. Cort said, "As I greeted guests and delegates after my speech it was obvious our message is one Republicans want to hear. Literally hundreds of guests and delegates told me I had to keep running and keep spreading our message."

Cort's campaign manager, Steve Kush added, "Despite the vote total I have to consider the Texas Straw Poll a success for our campaign. We've been asked to return to Texas and speak to some county organizations, county chairs were requesting campaign literature to place in their county headquarters and we picked up several volunteers in Texas to start building an organization there. We're going to build off this success and file in South Carolina later this month."

Dr. Cort announced his candidacy for the Republican nomination on January 21, 2005 at the National Press Club.

Dr. Cort has campaigned in Iowa, Virginia, South Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee, Kentucky, Alabama, Rhode Island, California and Texas and continues to build an active campaign organization. The campaign has volunteers and/or paid staff in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Alabama, South Carolina, Colorado, Oklahoma, California, Ohio, Virginia, Florida, Michigan, Rhode Island, Iowa and Texas.

Dr. Cort won the first presidential straw poll held in Rhode Island. Despite Rhode Island's proximity to Massachusetts Dr. Hugh Cort was able to defeat Mitt Romney in the Narragansett and South Kingstown straw poll. Romney finished second, Rudy Giuliani placed third and John McCain finished fourth.
